Rebate worksheet

Work through this before you book

Water providers in the valley offer different programs, with different rules, and they change. Check with your city for what applies to you. These are the steps we work through with every homeowner.

  1. 01

Step 1: Find who bills your water

Usually your city's water department. In some neighborhoods it is a private water company. The name is at the top of your bill.

  2. 02

Step 2: Measure the grass you want out

Length times width, in square feet, for each patch. We measure again at the walk-through, but your own number helps you read the rules.

  3. 03

Step 3: Read the program rules

Look for a minimum area, a plant or ground-cover rule, a before-and-after photo step and a deadline. Many programs ask you to apply before any work starts. Check with your city for what applies to you.

  4. 04

Step 4: Get our written estimate

It lists what comes out, what goes in and what the drip system covers, so you can attach it if your program asks for a scope.

  5. 05

Step 5: Apply, wait, then we start

Approval takes as long as your program takes. We put the job on the calendar when you tell us you're cleared.

Have in hand

What to write down before you call

  • Your water provider

The name on your bill, and the web page for its landscape program.

  • Grass area

Square feet of each patch you want out, front and back.

  • The rules page

Minimum area, plant rules, photo steps and deadlines, copied or printed.

  • Photos of the lawn

Taken before any work, in daylight, from the street and from inside the yard.

  • HOA approval

If you have a homeowners association, its rules for front yards.

  • What you want to keep

Trees, a favorite plant, a path, a gate. We mark them at the walk-through.

Our part, and yours

What we do, and what we can't

We help you read the program and give you what it asks for. We don't file for you, and we don't promise an amount.

We can

  • Measure the grass and write down the square feet

  • Write a scope with the plants, the ground cover and the irrigation

  • Take before and after photos on request

  • Tell you what our estimate can't answer: approval, amount and timing belong to your provider

The walk-through is where we measure and look at the sprinkler valves. We send the written estimate afterward.

Rebate questions

Does a rebate cover the whole job?

Usually not, and some programs pay for part of the area only. Your provider sets the limits, so check with your city.

Do I keep the grass until I'm approved?

Many programs ask you to. Read your program's rules, and tell us the date you're cleared to start.

What if my city has no program?

The yard still works without one. Some water providers have no landscape program, and others have closed theirs. We give you the same written scope either way.
